ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commission official Emmanuel Chimwanda, who was being charged with criminal abuse of office and contravening the Official Secrets Act, has been acquitted after the court dismissed the charges as trivial.

Chimwanda was facing five charges which included supplying classified information and criminal dockets to former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s office.
Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya yesterday ruled that the case was of a “trivial nature”, adding that it had been handled in an unprocedural manner.
“I must find you not guilty and you are acquitted on all five counts,” Mujaya ruled.
The State alleged that in April last year, the commission was investigating a fraud case involving former Harare special interest councillor Charles Nyachowe.
It alleged Chimwanda requested the docket from the commission’s chief investigations officer, Alex Masiye. Masiye then advised the general manager for investigations, Sukai Tongogara, and the two handed over the docket to Chimwanda.
Chimwanda then allegedly indicated that he wanted to peruse the docket because he was not satisfied with the manner in which the investigations were being carried out before he handed over copies of the docket to Tsvangirai’s four staffers — Thabani Mpofu, Warship Dumba, Felix Matsinde and Mehluli Tshuma.
