If Zimbabwe had SA resources we would dominate: Kapini

DURBAN — Zimbabwe have high-quality players in the South African Premier Soccer League, yet fail to qualify for big tournaments. Goal speaks to Tapuwa Kapini about their development.

The current AmaZulu captain and Zimbabwe goalkeeper spoke to Goal about his country’s challenges to compete with the best in Africa. “We have the quality of players that can compete at any level in the world. The challenge is our administrators and of course the players cannot do well on their own,” said Kapini.

After returning to the national team, Kapini said he was impressed with the talent he saw, even though many players were making their debut.

“I was so inspired by the talent that I saw in our team. We had about eight guys who were making their debut for the national team and they were just natural. The only senior players were myself and Nyadombo.

“I think we have what it takes to do well in the upcoming tournaments. We have great young players and come the Chan tournament we will finish in the top three or win it,” he said.

With players such as Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat, Cuthbert Malajila all expected to be back in the squad; Kapini said their full senior squad can also dominate Africa.

“Our development structures are good and that has been the reason we have produced quality players. If we had resources such as the one here in South Africa, I am sure we would be on another level,” he said.
