Dubbed In Search of a King, the production — inspired and written by Bonnie Deuschle — is a Christmas story based on the nativity of Jesus, featuring music by Deuschle together with traditional Christmas carols backed by the Celebration Choir.

“The show is a dynamic expression of the Christian story featuring about 300 people from all walks of life designed in a fresh and innovative way,” Deuschle said.

Directed by Rick Derrick, Christmas Foretold-In Search of a King will feature an extravagant light display, a vibrant children’s choir, shepherds, glow sticks, giant kings and angels producing a twist on the traditional shepherds, kings and angels of the age-old story.

The production portrays three main characters: a powerful rich king, a shy young shepherd boy and a poor old woman who all embark on separate journeys in search of a king.

“Last year, the production was brought back to the stage by popular demand after having a totally sold out show in 1993, which the President even labelled as his favourite Christmas show,” Deuschle added.

Christmas Foretold premiered in December 2012 at the Harare International Conference Centre in Harare, becoming an instant success. Now they plan to present to audiences annually.

This year, the cast includes top radio presenter Tonderai Katsande aka TK from ZiFM, Star FM’s Napoleon Nyanhi and advertising icon Gary Thompson, among others.

“During the three days, a free show will be allocated for Harare orphanages where we are expecting various children’s homes to attend,” Deuschle said.

This year’s show has been sponsored by various corporate brands including Dettol, Astro and ZiFM.
