Buffaloes . . . . . . (0)1
Monomotapa . . . . 0
BUFFALOES eased their relegation woes after securing a crucial win against Monomotapa in a late kick off at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.
Second half substitute Roy Mwenga scored the all important goal with two minutes before full time.
The visitors arrived almost half an hour after kick off time, but did put up a spirited fight before collapsing in the last two minutes. Buffaloes head coach Timothy Masachi said he was happy with the win.
“l am happy with the win and we are now focusing on our next game. We should win the match at all costs because I believe we are still fighting relegation,” he said.
Monomotapa head coach Big Zuze said he was happy with his side’s fighting spirit despite their poor travelling arrangements.
“The players showed a true fighting spirit despite the way we traveled. We left Harare late in the morning that’s why we arrived late,” he said. Buffaloes will now travel to FC Platinum with 38 points and needing just a point to survive.
They can even afford to lose if Hwange beat Motor Action and Black Rhinos beat Monomotapa while Black Mambas fall to Dynamos.
In the 10th minute Kuda Musharu almost opened the account for the visitors, but he headed wide Godknows Murwira’s corner kick with only Buffaloes goalkeeper Blessing Mwandimutsira to beat.
With three minutes before the breather Monomotapa goalkeeper Tapiwa Zvaita produced a stunning save to deny Buffaloes player Lloyd Katongomara from a close range.
Even without their star player Ronald Chitiyo, who remained in the capital because of family commitments, the visitors had some moments of sheer brilliance in added time of the first half as Biseki Zvikomborero’s shot was headed off the line by Jacob Muzokomba.
Mwenga who came in for Steven Sibanda in the 57th minute scored a curling shot in the 88th inside the box after being fed by Prosper Matizanadzo.
