Mr Ugly ‘weds’

IT was a colourful event at City Sports Bar on Friday where Mr Ugly winner William Masvinu tied the knot with his wife Alice Chabhanga albeit at a mock wedding.

The event was full of surprises as the normally shabbily-dressed Masvinu and his runners-up were clad in sleek suits while Apama Styles dance group members were the other ingredient for a superb event making up the bridal team.

Before the wedding, the couple had been paraded in the central business district not on a tractor as earlier indicated, but on the back of a tractor bringing business to a halt. As if that was not enough, another surprise was to follow on the stage as organiser Apama (real name David Machowa) took his comedy further into the nuptials as the marriage officer.

During the ceremony Masvinu, who was sporting a new hairstyle similar to that of the organiser Apama was clad in a white suit with black and white sneakers while her wife was in a white gown.

After the wedding Masvinu and his runners-up received their prizes from Edgar Mkunyadze of Lifel Investments who was one of the sponsors of the pageant.

Masvinu got one-year school fees for one of his children, groceries worth $200, full safety wear gear, which includes a helmet, complete work suit and his size 16 boots.

Benny Chakanyuka, the first runner-up, took home groceries worth $100, one school term’s tuition for one of his children, while Funny Musekiwa took home groceries worth $50.

Machowa said they planned the “wedding” as part of Masvinu’s success as he managed to return the title twice in a role.
