The police base is located close to President Robert Mugabe’s rural home at Kutama Mission.

The Chidhakwa family is closely related to President Robert Mugabe.

Sources at the police base told NewsDay yesterday that the minister’s 75-year-old father was, however, released under unclearcircumstances on Thursday. The sources said the girl was now five-months pregnant.

“The girl (name supplied) from Gamarahwe Village from Kutama is now five-months pregnant. Augustine was arrested after the complainant’s sister discovered the pregnancy and reported the matter to police,” said a police source who declined to be named.

The source added that the girl was medically examined at Kutama Mission Hospital.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara declined to comment on the matter referring NewsDay to national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba who kept professing ignorance over the issue.

The septuagenarian Chidhakwa is a member of Zanu PF’s National Consultative Assembly.

He is set to appear in court on Monday.
