With the win, Nation Dube’s side are now on 38 points with one more home match to play and lie in eighth position. It will now take a major miracle for them to be relegated as Monomotapa, if they lose today against How Mine, will go down.
Black Rhinos, on 34 points, are their next opponents at Rimuka on Sunday, leaving Black Mambas at the mercy of Dynamos in the last game of the season.
Dube said at the end of the match: “I am happy we collected maximum points at home in line with our blueprint. We hope to complete the season in this gear.”
Buffaloes coach Timothy Masachi was visibly disappointed by the loss and attributed the defeat to poor player co-ordination.
“We conceded avoidable goals in this match. We managed to contain Hwange in the field of play, but not on the scoresheets, we need to improve on that aspect if we are to complete the season in a better position, he said.
Gilbert Zulu scored the opener for Hwange in the 44th minute after being fed by Farayi Vimisayi just outside the box. Vimisayi finished off the visitors in the 80th minute to guarantee safety for the coalminers.
