Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development provincial development officer Sithembile Dube on Monday said preparations for the official launch were at an advanced stage.

Dube said top government officials were expected to grace the launch.

“We are ready as a province and as Gweru to host the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence,” said Dube.

“The Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Oppah Muchinguri will grace the occasion tomorrow (today) together with the ministers of Local Government and Health.”

She said there would be displays by stakeholders on gender-related issues.

The two-day launch would be themed From Peace in Our Homes to Peace in Our Communities and Campaigning Against Child Abuse and Rape.

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign that is marked from November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on December 10, which is Human Rights Day.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international levels.
