XP is a rare disorder where a person’s skin is highly sensitive to sunlight (photosensitive), has premature skin aging and is prone to progressing into skin cancer.

Bridgette’s condition, which usually appears in infancy, started when she was five months old, but was only discovered when she was two years old after developing tumours.

Ever since, she has endured pain and one of her eyes has since gone blind.

Her mother Benedict Makumbe told NewsDay her daughter needed assistance to go for an operation to remove the tumor cells before they developed to skin cancer.

“We are in debt of $1 200 from a previous treatment and we need to settle it before we go for the next treatment which is due early December,” she said, ” In addtion we need $800 for transport, accomodation and food for the trip to South Africa.”

Makumbe said she used to recieve support from former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife, Elizabeth.
