Faith Nyasango and her sister-in-law Constance Nyasango, who occupied third and second position respectively at the Old Mutual 21km Vumba Mountain Run last month, will again cross swords at the prestigious event.

Battle-hardened and experienced long- distance athlete Cuthbert Nyasango, who is the brother to Constance and husband to Faith, will be hoping to overcome his injuries nightmare to win the event.

In an interview with NewsDay Sport yesterday, Faith said she was aiming to be at least in the top three and believes they have what it takes to at least return home with something.

“We usually encourage each other as a family to work very hard and we prepare for races as a team. Actually for me I will be looking forward to be in the top three just like what l did in the Vumba race,’’ he said.

Cuthbert said his chances of winning the race might be slim because of his injuries, but could not completely rule himself out saying that he was going to perform to his best ability.

“Surely we work together as a family. I just hope that we are going to do well, but my chances are slim because of my injuries although at least I am now able to finish a 21km race. l cannot rule myself out of the race; there might be surprises,” she said.

South African-based Rutendo Nyahora, who came first at the Old Mutual 21km Vumba race last month said she always enjoys working with the athletes.

“I am a good friend to both Faith and Constance, we always thrive for better results and I am aiming to do better at the Westgate half marathon on Sunday,” she said. The Westgate Half Marathon is the richest marathon race in the country with a rich pocket of $25 000.

Winners of the 21km main event will walk away with $3 000 both in the male and female categories.
