Mushuna, who is a member of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, once had a two-year stint with Gospel Trumpet, regarded as one of the pioneers of gospel music in Zimbabwe.

“I am back in the music industry and have just formed a choir with my boyhood friend Makomborero,” Mushuna said.

The choir was moulded along the lines of South African Joyous Celebration and comprises 17 members from different local churches. The choir has also incorporated raw talent from different social groups, with a strong passion for preaching the word of God through music.

Mushuna said the choir is introducing a new style of gospel music as they seek to promote the genre differently.

“Our style is different from other existing groups and I have faith in that the choir can attract all generations into the kingdom of God.

“The choir was born out of the need to take the gospel music to greater heights by combining different instruments that can appeal to different social groups and still be able to preach an effective message of God’s glory,” he said.

The choir, which has been invited to South Africa for a concert at El-Shaddai Ministries next month, is still fine tuning their act as it is expected to share the stage with different other groups from regional countries including Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland, Malawi and Botswana.

The choir is currently working on a 10-track debut album that will be launched any time soon at Harare International Conference Centre.

Zimbabwe’s gospel landscape is currently experiencing a new style of praise and worship following the formation of some choir outfits like Celebration Choir and the Joseph Madziyire-led Zimpraise group that has taken Zimbabwe by storm.
