The tournament was held as a way of raising funds for the Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre, Widows and Orphans Fund, Army Benevolent Funds, Army Schools Welfare Trust and the Patients Welfare Fund. After the golf tournament there was a fundraising dinner at a local hotel.

Army Charities secretary Major Fabion Chitungo said they were happy with the response they received in raising funds for the army charities.

“The response was very overwhelming. We had a good attendance at the golf tournament and at the dinner as well. We managed to exceed our target because we raised more than $25 000 from the dinner. The funds will go a long way in assisting the army charities.

“What is left is for us to host a charity race at Borrowdale Race Course in Harare on November 3. That will mark the climax of the 2013 activities. We will then distribute the funds,” he said.

The golf tournament attracted Lieutenant General Phillip Valerio Sibanda, Brigadier Generals Chancellor Diye, Thomas Moyo, Howard Matombo, Thando Madzvamuse, Air Commodore Brian Chikonzo and Colonel Exsebious Vusa Tshuma.

The dinner was also graced by South African motivational speaker Eddie Khosa while Willis Watafi, Otis Ngwabi and Sandra Ndebele provided entertainment.

On the greens, Cuthbert Masukume and Cephas Ncube emerged winners of the tournament. Masukume and Ncube got 77 points in the tournament played in the four-ball-better-ball format.
