TRYSON Chimbetu’s Birthday Pahotera bash at Mushandirapamwe Hotel on Saturday turned out to be a disappointing affair as the musician arrived late for the show.

The show that was scheduled to start at 8pm had many revellers leaving the venue in protest.

Chimbetu who was celebrating his 26th birthday ended up performing for just over 30 people when he came on stage after midnight, a development that Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRS) blamed on poor planning.

ZRS spokesperson Takemore Mazuruse said the musician had failed to provide them with information on time.

Chimbetu is ZRS National Youth Advocate and Mazuruse said if Tryson had provided the necessary information on time they would have handled the show better.

“The birthday bash did not come out the way we wanted,” Mazuruse said.

“We were invited for the bash yet instead we should have done most of the work had paperwork been forwarded the way it should.

“There are a lot of logistical issues that were supposed to be done as well as engagement of corporates that an artist cannot do alone.”

Mazuruse, however, said they have already started planning for another event that would cover for the mess on October 26 at Chemhanza Grounds in Glen View.

“The show would be open to the public and will mainly be a fundraising event,” he said.

“We have already started engaging corporates that will be branding the event as well as help us with the planning.”

Chimbetu, however, said he had notified ZRS on time and explained that his late arrival was because he had another show in Chakari.

“The show in Chakari was supposed to have started in the afternoon, but it started late so I apologise for coming late,” he said.

However, his stage work which was done in collaboration with his uncle Allan Chimbetu somehow covered for the disappointing turnout and ill-organisation.
