In a statement yesterday, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union said the first leg of the series will be held under floodlights at a yet to be confirmed venue in Harare on November 15.

“The SPAR & Lion Lager Summer Series returns in November with a number of exciting innovations and features.”

“With a strong emphasis on building the popularity of the event, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union has welcomed efforts to hold 7s events in the afternoon and under lights. Friday 15th November will be the first event played in the day/night format,” read the statement. Old Georgians are the defending champions having beaten rivals Harare Sports Club in the final in February this year.

The Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team’s technical department headed by Gilbert Nyamutsamba is expected to use the SPAR/Lion Lager Summer Series to finalise their squad before their participation at the HSBC World Sevens Series in South Africa in December. The proposed dates for the SPAR/Lion Lager Summer Series 7s Summer Series are:

– November 15 in Harare, -November 16 in Bulawayo, – November 23-30 in Harare.
