Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the arrest of Francis Rusike (19), Hilary Gwangwanya (24), Absolom Gwangwanya ((21) and Clarence Gwangwanya (20) for allegedly fatally assaulting Wallas Makirambo (age not given) of Village 3 Chemaheu, Battlefields, Kadoma.

Police said on September 7 this year, the quartet approached Makirambo, who was fetching firewood in the bush near his home, and accused him of stealing maize from their homestead which is also nearby.

“All four accused persons started assaulting the now deceased all over the body using sjamboks,” said Mabgweazara, adding the now deceased’s mother, Dorcas Vheremu (48), rushed to the scene after she heard screams for help.

She allegedly found the four assailants beating Makirambo who lay unconscious and restrained them from further inflicting injuries.

Makirambo’s mother rushed back home where she called other villagers who brought a scotchcart and carried the victim home.

Makirambo later died at home as a result of injuries sustained in the attack, police said.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the arrest of the four who are expected in court soon.
