A HARARE man who threatened to kill his sister over the ownership of their late parents’ house before making sexual advances at her has been jailed

A HARARE man who threatened to kill his sister over the ownership of their late parents’ house before making sexual advances at her will spend the next seven months in jail after he was convicted of physical abuse by a Harare magistrate.

REPORT BY STAFF REPORTER

Dickson Chakombera was initially slapped with a 10-month prison sentence when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Arnold Maburo yesterday, but three months of the sentence were set aside for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Barbara Ndoro told the court that Chakombera threatened to kill his sister using a spear during a wrangle over the inheritance of their late parents’ house. He then proceeded to assault her with a brick before threatening to have sexual intercourse with her, the court heard.

The court heard that on August 18 at the house which is at the centre of the dispute in Dzivarasekwa 3, Chakombera told his sister that she should vacate the premises claiming that he was in charge of the property.

When she refused, Chakombera then assaulted her using fists and a brick before threatening her with rape.

The complainant sustained several body injuries and she lodged a police report leading to the arrest of Chakombera.
