Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza has been appointed Mashonaland East Provincial Police Commander

FORMER Criminal Investigations Department (CID) co-ordinator for Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South provinces Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza has been appointed Mashonaland East Provincial Police Commander.

Report by Jairos Saunyama

He takes over from Senior Assistant Commissioner Ronald Muderedzwa, who is now Zanu PF MP for Buhera Central.

Muderedzwa is one of the two top police officers who contested and won the July 31 elections on Zanu PF tickets.

Speaking during his farewell party at Marondera Central Police Station on Saturday, Muderedzwa said: “I had a passion in politics and I am happy that my dream was fulfilled. It is my pleasure to inform you that I am no longer a law enforcer, but a lawmaker.

“Together with (Assistant Commissioner Oliver) Mandipaka, (William) Mutomba and (Joseph) Chinotimba, we wrested and defeated the opposition in their strongholds in Buhera and I am very happy of that,” he said.

Muderedzwa told the audience which consisted of top police officers, mainly from the province, that he would push for a civil servants’ salary increment. “Remember, I am a civil servant also and I am quite aware of the issue of salaries. I will contribute a lot in Parliament to ensure that the issue is resolved,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Makodza hailed Muderedzwa saying: “Admittedly, it is no easy task taking over from a man of such great stature and achievements. But let me assure you, Honourable, that as an organisation, we shall continue to soldier on from where you left.

“I also want to believe that even as you leave this day, you will still continue to share the vision of the ZRP as spelt out in our strategic ‘Vision 2020’, that is ‘Striving for a Crime-free Society’.”
