This comes after the run of the hilarious comedy Run for Your Wife.

Written by Tawanda Kanengoni and directed by Leeroy Gono The Gods You’ve Built is a drama that explores all aspects of human existence and the raw emotions that often lead to self-destructive decisions.

Gono, who also features in the play, said the premiere would be proof that everything is falling into place after he was appointed the artistic director of Charles Austin Theatre two months ago.

“This is my first play to direct since I came back to Masvingo and I must say I relish the moment,” Gono said.

“Everything seems to be falling into place now, and working on this production has really changed my perspective of life. All I can say is that this is a show that you can’t afford to miss.”

Gono said the cast includes Khetani Michael Banda who was a star in the last comedy Run for Your Wife.

In this production Khetani plays the role of Pamhidzai, a policeman.

“He has been with the Theatre since 2009 and has been performing and writing plays and has won Best Achievement Award for his play The Reunion at the One Act Play Festival in Kadoma,” Gono said.

In the play, he is supported by Precious Mudzingwa who plays Rudo, a nun.

Gono said The Gods You’ve Built is also scheduled to be performed at the Intwasa Arts Festival in Bulawayo later on this month before it makes a return at the One Act Festival in Masvingo.

“The play will proceed to do a run at Reps Theatre in Harare before going on tour in Durban, South Africa,” he said.

The Gods You’ve Built is set over the period of one night in an abandoned toilet.

Three people’s lives, (Brian, Rudo and Pamhidzai), converge in a tragic and tumultuous turn of events that leaves two of them dead and one changed forever.
