ZIMBABWE Number 1 professional golfer Brendon de Jonge carded an impressive 65 in the fourth round of Sunday’s Tour Championship final match at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, but the feat came too little, too late as the 33-year-old finished tied on position 18.

De Jonge was one of the three outstanding performers of that final round, even doing better than the eventual winner Henrik Stenson of Sweden, who could only card a 68, but a poor show in round two and three meant the Zimbabwean finished outside the coveted top 10.

He managed scores of 70, 72, 71 before his nearly flawless last round when he circled a half dozen birdies to just one bogey.

That faultless performance in the last round ensured that he finished in red figures for the championship with a2-under-278 total in what was a decent performance by the burly-looking golfer.

It was also a respectable performance for De Jonge this season as he was considered one of the players likely to claim a breakthrough win this year. He, however, failed to hoist any silverware with his PGA Tour winless streak now at 178.

De Jonge pocketed $158 400 for his exploits in Sunday’s event, to take his season money total to $1 795 244 in 30 starts.

His best performance of the PGA Tour season came at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February when he finished sixth and was rewarded with a $207 700 purse.

His other notable performances came in the RBC Heritage tourney in April and at the Deutsche Bank Championship last September when he finished tied on ninth position and he received  $125 666,66 and $208 000 respectively.

De Jonge will play for the international team in the President’s Cup in two weeks after being picked by captain Nick Price.

It will be his first bow at this level of the game, a good return of a solid 2013 season for the North California-based golfer who turned pro exactly a decade ago.
