TWO Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) journalists, Tapiwa Zivira and correspondent Michelle Chifamba, scooped two humanitarian reporting awards at a ceremony held in Harare yesterday. REPORT BY STAFF REPORTER

The awards were co-sponsored by the Humanitarian Information Facilitation Centre (HIFC) and the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Zivira scooped the Humanitarian Reporter of the Year award for online, while NewsDay correspondent Chifamba won in the print category in Harare yesterday.

This comes just a month after NewsDay won the Telkom Highway Africa New Media award for the “most innovative newsroom” in Africa.

AMH are publishers of two dailies NewsDay and Southern Eye and two weeklies, The Standard and The Zimbabwe Independent.

The annual awards seek to encourage media coverage of humanitarian issues in Zimbabwe and raise awareness of World Humanitarian Day.

HIFC director Virginia Muwanigwa said her organisation would continue working towards boosting the partnership between the media and humanitarian caregivers.
