POLICE in Mutoko have arrested a 19-year-old woman who allegedly killed her two-year-old daughter by throwing her into a pool at Nyaitenga Bridge before she later threatened to commit suicide accusing her parents of ill-treating her. Report by Jairos Saunyama

Mashonaland East acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday said the incident happened last Friday at Nyaitenga Bridge along the Mutoko-Nyadire Road.

Police said the suspect, Memory Mukuvisi, was assisting police with investigations.

“I confirm the arrest of Mukuvisi who is assisting police officers with investigations over the death of a two-year-old toddler whose body was recovered from a pool on August 24 at Nyaitenga Bridge along Mutoko-Nyadire Road,” Mwanza said.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Mukuvisi boarded an Uzumba-bound commuter omnibus with her daughter, ostensibly to visit her grandparents.

She allegedly disembarked at Mutambwe bus stop and threw her daughter into a pool at Nyaitenga Bridge.

The following day, passersby discovered the toddler’s body floating in the pool and alerted police in Mutoko.

Upon her arrest, Mukuvisi allegedly admitted the murder charge claiming she was also contemplating to end her life because of ill-treatment she was receiving from her parents. The child’s body was taken to Mutoko District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
