Show organisers told NewsDay that the bash, which is held in the same format as the famous Reggae Summer Splash in Jamaica, is meant to search for talent among dancehall artistes as well as supporting the genre.

“We want to break new ground towards reviving our local arts sector by promoting the industry hence coming up with such a bash,” one of the organisers said.

The show will have both renowned and upcoming dancehall musicians battling for supremacy as they will share the stage with popular disc jockeys who have also been awarded the chance to showcase their skills on the turntables.

Legendary Sound, Silverstone, Megaforce and Fire Lynx will battle it out for the sound clash slot, while artistes in the form of Sniper Storm, Emmanuel “Guspy Warrior” Manyeruke, Dadza D, Ricky Fire, Princo Spice and Freeman, among others, will take turns to entertain revellers.

Sniper Storm, Guspy Warrior, Shinsoman and Freeman will be the major drawcards, but a number of female artists on the list are likely to make their stage presence felt in a big way.

Sandra Gazi, aka Lady Squanda, Brenda Bechanibetter known as Lady Band Bounty Lisa, real name Linnet Musenyi, have been given the opportunity to showcase their talent in this male-dominated genre.

Controversial Lady Squanda has shown that she has got the stamina and energy as one of the best female chanters in a male-dominated genre.

Artiste who are billed to perform have, however, promised to give outstanding performances at the gig.

Shinsoman, who is steadily rising on the dancehall scene, said: “I feel honoured to perform at such a gig sharing the stage with big artistes. Fans should expect the best performance from me as usual.”

Dadza D, the energetic artiste who has a record of mesmerising audiences with his dances, said he was well prepared for the show with polished acts for fans’ hard-earned cash. Another chanter, Guspy Warrior, will be out to once again show that he is a serious contender on the dancehall throne.

“This is really good to see promoters taking our genre (dancehall) seriously by hosting such type of shows. It is now left for us as artistes not to spoil the show, but to put up fine performances that would really bring the significance of the show,” he said.

The country’s dancehall genre continues to grow, judging with the number of artistes who have ventured into the genre and several Jamaican dancehall artistes like Capleton, Jah Thunder, Elephant Man, Mavado and Agent Sasco, among others, visiting the country.
