NewsDay, which has a prominent mobile and web presence and is accredited as a leader in accelerating the digital first strategy in line with world trends, was nominated under the Telkom-Highway Africa New Media Awards Innovative Newsroom Category.
Group Editor-in-Chief of Alpha Media Holdings, publishers of NewsDay, The Independent, Standard and Southern Eye, Vincent Kahiya said the nomination showed the group’s vision in staying with the reader in the virtual sphere.
“The nomination is testament of our commitment to move into the digital space where consumers of our content are migrating to,” said Kahiya.
“This recognition can only spur the team at AMH to harness the power of technologies to gather and disseminate content.”
AMH online editor John Mokwetsi said he was proud and excited that the newspaper had been nominated for the award.
“This is a prestigious award and to be nominated alone is in itself a very high accolade. AMH has adopted the digital first strategy to good effect and the world is beginning to notice. It has been a year of hard work from everyone and the results are clear,” he said.
Mokwetsi added: “This is a stamp of approval to our assertion that we lead in this market and will continue to break new ground as we follow closely the trends in the digital media sphere.”
The Awards Ceremony will be held during the 17th Edition of the Highway Africa Conference slated for September 2 in Grahamstown, South Africa.
