Sermon of the Week with Pastor Erasmus Makarimayi

I want to reach out to both the bragging winners and the bleeding losers.

Whether they are bulldozing rigging architects or deserving elated elected, let me speak to them.

Whether they are deserving-deflated cry-baby losers or cheated defeated campaigners, my message goes out to them.

I also send this message to both the approving and disapproving electorate. Pay heed all you apparatchiks, apologists, activists and independents.

The question is: Now that the election is lost and won; where to Zimbabwe?

To both poles, that is, the winners and the losers, there will be elections in the next five years.

Winners did not win by 100% and the losers did not lose by 100%; the truth of the diversity of our beautiful country. Concord not discord is what the nation needs. Whether the harmonised elections were harmonious or not; harmony is the answer.

I am not a politician, neither am I a political commentator or analyst, so I will confine myself to issues spiritual, biblical and theological.

I will stick to my calling and turf and speak the oracles of God in whose presence I stand.

Albert Einstein taught me, “Politics is far more complicated than physics.”

It is, therefore, not my brief to agree to or deny accusations of rigging. I celebrate with winners and commiserate with losers.

I pastor members of various political thought. Some think opportunity of a lifetime was squandered while others opine it was maximised. What I can confirm with certainty, however, is that God is still on His throne according to Psalm 45:6a which reads, “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever.”

He will neither leave us nor forsake us. Notwithstanding the undergirding currents of the conduct and outcome of the elections, we need to move forward.

My purview is not to give credence to any deduction of the electoral process. The noblest way to celebrate a victory is to refrain from mocking the loser.

A defeat is accepted by reaching out to the embrace of the winner as you congratulate them. Winners, whether you won freely or stole the vote, don’t victimise the losers.

Losers don’t complicate matters. I appreciate the anger, bitterness and the vengeful venom in you.

Let the Holy Spirit soothe you. There was emotional, material and financial investment. Maybe you lost your money, please don’t lose your emotion. Winners, be magnanimous in celebrating. Allow losers to cry. Losers be consolable and move forward.

The contesting parties were campaigning to lead the same people. So both the winners and the losers should not abuse the people.

The winners will now lead members of all the political persuasions. Both winners and losers promised peace and prosperity in the land between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers during the campaigning. All Zimbabweans, with their diverse political views want decent accommodation, clean water, electricity, jobs and many other things of life fulfilment.

Let us be in harmony and fulfil Psalm 133:1 which reads, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Hebrews 12:14 encourages, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see The Lord.”

If we are one and united in the land, then God will command the blessing and there shall nothing be impossible for us in making great strides.

To the coming government, actions and results are what the nation awaits. The nation does not expect more promises, we have enough of these and surplus to export.

Results of promises already tendered will suffice. This is not the time to use the lame alibi that Tendai Biti, the outgoing Treasury minister is not disbursing funding. There is no time to waste.

The nation has lost too much precious time already. Let us hit the ground running. This is the time to deliver. Blame game and politicking should find their way into the dustbin.

As a pastor when people call me at midnight for a divine answer, they don’t expect excuses, they want breakthrough even against a demon of the magnitude of sanctions.

You were elected to bring answers not explanation for failure. Let the elected be accountable to the electorate and value the precious vote and desist from instilling fear in the electorate. The electorate deserves value for its vote.

Each generation faces its peculiar challenges. We should not labour the next generation with our incapabilities.

Our undone duty will metastasise into a ghost that will scare the next generation. For posterity, do your duty.

God gives every generation the grace to undertake the tasks of its time. We have to exercise dominion in our era.

Daniel 4:3b says, “His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.”

The kingdom of God is forever but dominion for each generation has to be worked out. Let us not hand over a defeated kingdom to the next generation but a kingdom functioning in dominion.

In harmony we can make it. Let those who have ears hear. Zimbabwe, you are going somewhere.
