MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa says Zanu PF has no faith in its own presidential candidate.

Gweru – MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa says Zanu PF has no faith in its own presidential candidate to the extent that it has resorted to using President Robert Mugabe’s 1980 pictures on its campaign material.

Addressing party supporters at a MDC-T star rally at Mkoba Stadium on Sunday, Chamisa said Zanu PF had taken President Mugabe’s 1980 photo and used it for his 2013 election campaign posters a sign the party had lost faith in his facial looks.

“They can’t even use his recent picture because they are not confident of their presidential candidate, even if you go to the Register Generals office with the intention of getting an identification card they won’t ask for your picture of years ago they want the current picture,” said Chamisa.

“If one uses his picture of 1980 people might not even recognise him if they are to meet him today, this is fraud and a show of loss of confidence.”

The President who turns 90 next February looks frail with age having taken its toll on the veteran politician but all campaign materials which include t-shirts, caps and posters have the image of a much younger Mugabe.

Chamisa said the use of a younger Mugabe picture was tantamount to misleading the nation.

Mugabe’s age has been a subject of debate with MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai describing as a national security issue.

“We can’t trust our future in the hands of a 90 year old president, his age is a national security issue and everyone has seen it that clearly he needs to rest,” said Tsvangirai last week in Gokwe.
