Made up of the “rebels” Franco Slomo (real name Francis Dhaka), Jonasi Kasamaba, Obert Gomba and Noel Nyazanda, the group performed alongside Peter Moyo, Sulumani Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and the Dembo brothers Morgan and Tendai at an event that also served as their album launch.

So much was expected, but their performance was far below par. The group came on stage after the Young Igwe, as Moyo is now known, who had introduced himself with songs from his album Mushonga Mukuru. The rebels got a rude awakening as they found the bar set by the young Igwee too high.

As the master of ceremonies announced the coming of Extra Kwazvose, the whole auditorium praised members of the group as they walked on stage.

They introduced themselves with the song Amai vaBonnie, but as proven by the rapport or rather lack of it, it was just a lukewarm affair.

Kasamba finished the rest of their performance describing the band as the “cream” and “the best on top of the rest” leaving many questioning why they could not leave the fans to judge.

Slomo tracked fans down the memory lane of his days at Macheso with his popular Cherebu dance.

However, their lead guitarist Nyazanda proved his mettle with his superb guitar skills.

They sealed off their slot with the song Mudiwa Wangu, but still the fans did not budge.

Chimbetu then reignited the fire that had been dampened by the rebels.

For the dendera exponent, the absence of his uncle Allan and Slomo was conspicuous.

He was joined on stage by Jah Prayzah on song Sean Timba much to the delight of the crowd.

Slomo later joined his former paymaster for a song before he left. Jah Prayzah finished off the event with an energetic performance. Songs from his new album Tsviriyo became ultimate winners of the night as people sang along on most of them.

One of the show organisers, Babra Chikosi of Red Rose Entertainment, said she was happy with the way the people had come to witness the event.

“Artistes performed and the people loved it and we are happy with the commitment the artistes showed including the new sungura outfit Extra Kwazvose,” said Chikosi.
