The suspect, Obert Chigaba (45), is alleged to have received a $50 bribe from Angeline Pikele and Shengwe Chizeze on March 14 this year to facilitate processing of their birth certificates and national identification cards.

It is alleged that Chigaba told the two it could take them at least three months to get their IDs if they did not pay the bribe, adding the verification process would involve having their fingerprints checked at KG VI in Harare.

After receiving the bribe money, Chigaba allegedly processed the pair’s documents within a month.

However, Pikele and Chizeze reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.

Chiredzi magistrate Tinashe Ndokera granted him $200 bail and remanded him to July 18.
