DYNAMOS’ hopes of retaining the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title could be thrown into jeopardy with reports that their most trusted defender, Patson “Yellow” Jaure, will soon leave the club for South Africa.

The steady defender underwent trials at Premiership side Pretoria University in January and reports from South Africa suggest that the university club, home to Warriors goalie Washington Arubi, were impressed.

AmaTuks coach Steve Barker has been quoted in the Press praising Jaure as a world-class player, who the club is keen to sign. “What we saw from Jaure impressed us. We have also seen from his games with Dynamos that he is a natural defender with good leadership qualities,” said Barker.

“We want to sign him while there is still enough time for him to fit with the rest of the team before the season starts. He will definitely be one of our biggest signings for this season, as we prepare for a tough season. We want to make sure that all departments are strengthened and the Zimbabwean will make a huge difference at the back as we fight to finish in the Top Eight again,” he added.

However, Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro yesterday said no negotiations had taken place between the two clubs, although he did not rule out that Jaure would leave.

“No one has contacted us from Pretoria University. Maybe they are talking to the player and his manager, not us. Jaure is a very good player and we are not surprised by those reports,” said Chihoro. The player himself is on record saying he will only swap Dynamos for a European club. It seems Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa has resigned to losing one of his best players, as he has not been using the man, who turned 23 on Monday, in recent matches.

The double-winning coach benched Jaure for the two consecutive games against Buffaloes and How Mine with Augustine Mbara the preferred partner to Gift Bello at the heart of defence.

Chihoro said Jaure had been benched because he was just coming back from an injury. Dynamos are reportedly lining up defenders Passmore Bernard and Obey Mwerahari as possible replacements for Jaure.
