A HARARE woman, Patience Shiri, yesterday stunned the court when she claimed that her husband had pleaded with her to officially recognise his extramarital relationship with a wealthy woman so that the family could benefit from her riches.

Shiri made the startling disclosures after Angeline Katsande, whom she claimed to be dating her husband, applied for a peace order against her. In her application, Katsande claimed Shiri had on several occasions threatened her over the phone, sometimes at odd hours.
But, Shiri denied making the telephone threats.
“My husband introduced me to Katsande as his sister sometime back, that is how I knew her all along. But this one day I saw a message in my husband’s phone which she had sent saying ‘I miss you terribly’. That is when I queried their relationship,” Shiri said.
“Then there is a day when my husband came to me and asked me if he could be in love with Katsande saying she had a lot of money and through that our troubles could be over. That is when I approached Katsande, but I did not insult her or say anything bad. All I told her was that what she was doing with my husband was not good.”
Magistrate Tatenda Manhanzva said: “The evidence you have shown of the messages is not offensive or derogatory in any way. Being told to take a day off so you could talk about an issue is not abusive.
“Since you say she calls you frequently and at odd hours, get a printout of the phone calls and we see the frequency of the calls, then we can come up with a justified judgment.”
The trial continues tomorrow.
