A 30-YEAR-OLD Goromonzi man was yesterday found guilty of raping his 13-year-old sister-in-law after having tried to convince the court that goblins, and not him, were raping the juvenile. Report by Own Correspondent

The man, whose name will be withheld to protect the identity of his victim, was slapped with a 16-year jail term by Marondera magistrate Alexio Shumba.

He will serve an effective 14 years after two years were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence in the next five years.

Prosecutor Memory Mandudzo told the court that on January 8 last year, the juvenile was left by her mother at the man’s homestead for temporary accommodation since their house was under construction.

One day during that week, the complainant came back from school and found the accused alone.

When she entered one of the rooms intending to change from her school uniform, the accused person followed and raped her.

The court heard that accused grabbed the girl and pushed her to the bed. He gagged her with a piece of cloth and tied her hands together.

He also used a rope to tie her legs to poles inside the house before raping her.The accused later raped the girl on several occasions, sometimes twice a day, between January and September last year.

The matter came to light in September last year after she was taken to hospital complaining of abdominal pains where she spoke about her rape ordeal to a nurse.
