AUGUSTINE Mbara scored the decisive goal that ended Buffaloes’ 59 minutes of resistance and brought Dynamos back in the frame for the championship in a Castle Lager Premiership football tie at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The win helped the champions recover from last week’s shock defeat to How Mine and lifted them to second to second position on the league table as rivals Highlanders dropped to third position after drawing 1-1 against Chicken Inn.

Dynamos who were also seeking revenge after they were defeated 2-3 in the reverse fixture took control of the match from the onset and carved out good chances but they wasted most of those opportunities.

Dynamos forward Russel Madamombe delivered a good cross into the penalty area from kick off, but there was no blue shirt in sight.

Buffaloes also had a chance on 11 minutes but striker Stephen Sibanda missed a headed opportunity.

Thereafter it was Dynamos who had better opportunities with Ugandan International Boban Zirintusa missing with a wild effort from a set-up by Clive Kawinga in the 12th minute.

Midfielder Thomas Magorimbo also missed a headed chance on 16 minutes following a cross from Madamombe.

In the second half, the champions maintained their dominance and Kawinga could have registered his name on the score board in the 46th minute, but his header went just wide. Kalisto Pasuwa then pulled out Zirintusa and threw in Farai Mupasiri two minutes later as he tried to add some bite to his attack.

The former Caps United striker also scratched his head in disappointment after his effort deflected off a Buffaloes defender on 49 minutes.

Four minutes later- Pasuwa also introduced Cliff Sekete for Morris Kadzola.

Moments later Dynamos players had an opportunity following a scramble in the penalty area, but no one was able to prod the ball home.

However, the goal which had become elusive did arrive on 59 minutes with Mbara drilling a powerful grounder that beat Blessing Mwandimutsira.

But still Buffaloes remained a threat with Jacob Muzokomba coming close on 70 minutes. They could still have drawn level six minutes later as Sibanda took advantage of a mistake by Gift Bello and pressed forward with the ball, but he failed to beat a drawn out goalkeeper George Chigova and a golden chance was lost.

Masachi immediately pulled out Sibanda after the miss, throwing in Michael Mageja but still it was the home team who could have increased their lead with Alan Tavarwisa who came on for Kawinga late in the second half watching his header crashing against the cross bar.

Pasuwa was happy with the victory. “We wanted to collect the three points especially coming from a defeat against How Mine. We are happy with the victory but we missed good chances and I think we need to work on our attack,” said Pasuwa after the match.

His counter part Masachi blamed lack of concentration for the defeat.

“The defender didn’t press Mbara (the goal scorer). Sibanda also missed with the keeper to beat. It was a golden chance for us to at least get a draw. But we will have to go and redress,” he said.
