A HARARE businessman, Jeffery Mutizwa, allegedly shot and injured his wife and sister-in-law before turning the gun on himself

A HARARE businessman, Jeffery Mutizwa, allegedly shot and injured his wife and sister-in-law before turning the gun on himself in a suspected case of suicide yesterday morning.

Report by Staff Reporter

Neighbours at the businessman’s Parktown home said the incident occurred around 2am. They said Mutizwa died on the spot while his wife and sister-in-law were rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Harare police spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda confirmed the incident. He said police had recovered a suicide note from the house.

“It is alleged that he (Mutizwa) was having problems with his sister-in-law whom he lived with. He came home at around 1am drunk and started accusing her of being a prostitute. When his wife woke up to find out what was going on, Mutizwa took his gun and fired at his sister-in-law hitting her on the forehead, stomach and twice in the armpits,” said Chibanda.

“He then fired at his wife, grazing her forehead and apparently thought she had died. That is when he wrote a suicide note saying he had a lot of debts which were bothering him and could not cope. He then shot himself once on the forehead and died on the spot.”

When the NewsDay crew visited the family home, neighbours were still milling around the gate trying to come to terms with the tragedy
