MUSICIANS Blessing Shumba, Jah Prayzah, and Lady Squander on Monday performed at Spar Shopping Centre in Ruwa and encouraged youths to vote in today’s harmonised elections.

Shumba took the stage first giving a top class performance. He introduced himself with the song Nhaka and the crowd greeted him with wild cheers before fans took turns to join him on stage to dance.
Songs Kanganwiro, Wanano and Vanorwara Vese were some of the offering from his new album which sent the crowd into frenzy. Jah Prayzah came second and sent the crowd into frenzy with songs from his album Tsviriyo.
Songs Ngoda, Machembere and Rufaro were among the crowd’s favourites. Lady Squander was last to perform and proved her mettle as a dancehall queen with a good act.
Speaking on the sidelines of the show, Shumba said it was important for youths to vote since they are custodians of the country’s future. “We are the youths and we have also to make decisions since we are the future of the country. These young people should go and vote,” Shumba said.
Programme manager for Youth Empowerment and Transformation, Taison Mudarikiri, organised the event and said they have been hosting such events in all the cities encouraging the youths to go and vote.
“We have been doing this for a few months now. We started by encouraging them to go and register to vote and now we are encouraging them to go and vote,” Mudarikiri said.

Meanwhile, upcoming musician Ashley Mafunga aka Ashley Winterton yesterday released a single track, Kuti Zimbo Ndokuti Runyararo, dedicated to the elections.
The track presents Zimbabwe as a first class tourist destination, applauding its peace-loving people and encouraging them to maintain peace during and after elections.
“I sing music that addresses life’s fundamental issues like spiritual, socio and psycho-emotional dynamics that people experience on a daily basis,” Winterton said.
“I found it necessary to encourage Zimbabweans to vote in peace and maintain the peace even after.”
The musician-cum-actor said he hoped that his song would make a lasting impression on people and have an effect of pushing the message of peace beyond the election period.
The single is part of his upcoming nine-track album titled The Peace Advocate that will be released before the end of the year.
“I hope my latest track will captivate Zimbabwean listeners like my previous song, Open the Door which had an amazingly huge following and up to this day I’m proud to see the video being played extensively on local television,” Winterton said.
The 28-year-old musician said he was also currently writing several books one of which is his autobiography from which he occasionally plucks words for his songs.
Winterton said he hopes to captivate as many people as possible through his Facebook page The Ashley Winterton Zimbabwe Elections Peace campaign, as it was everyone’s role to do whatever they can to maintain the culture of peace.
He has released four singles since 2007 and also featured in various television productions like The Long Night, Love Like This, The Team, Revelations, Cultured Reality Show and the forthcoming hilarious comedy Mr Winterton.
“I’m grateful for my producer Ian Mutamiri aka Ahsayn Da Beatmaker who made this song possible and Alvan Smuth who fascilitated the vocal recording for the song in a bid to play a role in supporting peace in Zimbabwe.”
