MALAWI President Joyce Banda has described as “malicious” Facebook shadow character Baba Jukwa’s accusations that she is engineering a Zanu PF poll rigging plot, sparking criticism from ordinary Zimbabweans.

Posting on her official Facebook page titled Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda, she said: “These are malicious allegations only meant to destroy someone’s reputation. We will never meddle with the affairs of another country.”

This followed a post by Baba Jukwa directed at Banda alleging that Zimbabweans were aware that she had signed an agreement with Zanu PF to rig elections.

Malawi takes over the rotational Sadc chairmanship position next month which Banda would likely use to influence the regional bloc’s decisions on Zimbabwe.

Banda’s post appeared to have incited several Zimbabweans who took to her Facebook wall expressing anger at her alleged interference.

One Roy Ndlovu posted on Banda’s Facebook timeline: “Your Excellency. Is it true that you have taken sides in the Zimbabwean politics? If so, please back off.

Zimbabwean people have suffered long enough. Instead of siding with a regime which has abused, raped women, murdered innocent people, you should be promoting democracy in the region. Help Zimbabweans restore the dignity they once had as a nation.”

Another Facebook account holder by the name Chembere Mukadzi posted: “President, why do you want to sacrifice 13 million people for diamonds? You came to Zimbabwe on a guided tour and ended up praising fake projects, why?”

One Thabani Ngwenya also wrote: “Africa is behind you because of your way of thinking and doing things. Madam President, please distance yourself from Zimbabwean politics. We would be grateful if (sic) you are to be firm with dictator (President Robert) Mugabe.”
