The sungura godfather said he has acquired most of the instruments to be used at the academy, but was struggling to put up the infrastructure.

“We have already acquired a number of the instruments to be used at the academy, but now our challenge is to have the infrastructure in position,” said Zakaria.

He added that he was using some of the money from his live shows for the development of the academy.

“I am struggling to use the little I am getting from our live performances to acquire some of these instruments for the academy,” he said.

The stand on which the academy will be built, in Unit J, Chitungwiza, is yet to be developed three years after it was acquired.

“So far I have purchased equipment including six guitars, two amplifiers and two mixers,” said Madzibaba, but was reluctant to divulge the cost.

The senior lecturer, as he is fondly known by his fans, said his wish was to buy high-class equipment so as to ensure good sound system. “I will try my level best to purchase equipment of high class so as to ensure those who will be learning at the academy get to start playing music with quality instruments.”

Madzibaba said he hoped to complete constructing the academy by June this year if he gets enough funds.

“If we get the funds we will start with a hall where lessons will be conducted and the work will progress from there,” he said.

Madzibaba will join a list of other musicians that have established arts academies like Oliver Mtukudzi, who runs Pakare Paye Arts Centre and Clive Malunga, who set up Jenaguru Music Academy.
