Report by Phillip Chidavaenzi

The 15–year–old boy from Dawn Farm in New Marlborough, Harare, was yesterday released into the custody of his father and remanded to July 5 when he appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei.

Prosecutor Rashworth Mufakose told the court that the accused lived in the same compound at the farm with the seven–year–old complainant, but the two are not related.

On June 18 this year, it is alleged, the complainant’s mother left home for work in the morning and left her child alone. The accused allegedly went to the young girl’s home and found her alone. He then dragged the girl inside the house and raped her, the court heard.

The court heard that when the complainant’s mother returned from work, she discovered that her daughter was having difficulties in sitting properly. She allegedly quizzed her daughter, who subsequently disclosed the abuse.

The matter was reported the to police, leading to the arrest of the accused person who was charged with rape as defined under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
