A Warren Park teenager’s decision to join a gang of robbers ended tragically after he was allegedly sexually abused during rituals he was made to understand were meant to ensure that the deals they would engage in would sail through.

It is alleged that the 15–year–old was approached by one Terrence Chigaba (29) of Kuwadzana who was in the company of his friends sometime in April this year. Chigaba allegedly sweet-talked the minor into joining their gang.

Further allegations are that the teenager accompanied the gang to Kuwadzana 4 where they robbed a man of cash and a mobile phone before sharing the proceeds, but the teenager, who resides in Warren Park, did not benefit from the spoils of the robbery.

He was then advised to come to Kuwadzana 1 the following day at 8pm and he complied. It is alleged that he was taken to one 36–year–old Nyararai Elizabeth Matambo’s house. Upon arrival, the court heard, the gang took turns to enter the house and engage in sexual intercourse with Matambo.

The teenager, it is alleged, entered the house last with Chigaba following behind him. The court further heard that Chigaba then ordered him to have sexual intercourse with Matambo on the understanding that doing so was a way of perfecting their deals.

Chigaba fondled his privates and demonstrated to the teenager how he should do it.

This happened on different occasions without the teenager’s consent and Chigaba would allegedly threaten him if he refused to be intimate with Matambo. The boy later made a police report leading to the arrest of the pair.

Chigaba and Matambo yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault and coercing or inducing persons for the purposes of engaging in sexual conduct as defined in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

They were remanded in custody to June 24 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court due to the seriousness of the offence. Junior Mugebe prosecuted.
