THE SRC will hold its second quarterly meeting with all sports associations in Harare today to give an update on Bulawayo's hosting of the 2014 Zone VI Youth Games.

THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) will hold its second quarterly meeting with all national sports associations in Harare today  to give an update on Bulawayo’s hosting of the 2014 Zone VI Youth Games.

At the moment, there are 47 sporting associations in the country and all are expected to be represented at today’s meeting which is set to start at 9am. SRC corporate communications officer Tirivashe Nheweyembwa confirmed the meeting.

“All national sports associations who are registered as well as those who are recognised will converge here for the second quarterly meeting to be addressed by one of the SRC board members at Jameson Hotel tomorrow (today),” Nheweyembwa said.

According to a statement by the SRC, the issue of governance and compliance by the National Sport Associations will be deliberated upon as National Sport Associations are required in terms of the SRC Act Chapter 25:15 of 1991 to submit their Audited Financial statements, Activity Reports, Estimates of income and expenditure for the ensuing year and their calendars of activities no later than the 31st of March of every year.

An update on the state of preparedness to host and participate in the Zone VI Youth Games which are scheduled to be hosted in Bulawayo in 2014 will be made as well as an update on the preparations for the All Africa Games to be held in Congo-Brazzaville in 2015.

During the meeting, an update on the induction of more former athletes into the Zimbabwe Sports Hall of Fame will also be made as well a presentation on HIV and Aids in sport by National Aids Council.

The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the Zimbabwe Paralympic Committee are expected to present their strategies and preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games during today’s meeting.

Delegates to the meeting will also be updated on how far the SRC has gone in putting together the new national sport strategy.

The Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association and Zimbabwe Handball Federation are recognised but have not been registered with the SRC are expected to attend the meeting.
