Peter Moyo launches new album

PETER Moyo on Wednesday launched his debut album that is likely to determine his future in the music industry.

Report by Entertainment Reporter

Titled Mushonga Mukuru, the album was launched at the Zim Café in the capital and it attracted a number of musicians, promoters and politicians.

Tryson, Sulumani and Douglas Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Romeo Gasa, Simon Mutambi, Gift Amuli, Somandla Ndebele and Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima were some of the musicians who graced the event, while Josh Hozheri, Patson Chimbodza, Fidelis Ngove and Barbara Chikosi were among promoters at the function.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry minister Walter Mzembi, who was guest of the honour, hailed Moyo for his courage despite severe criticism.

“We want to thank the musician for keeping Tongai Moyo’s legacy and we will keep on supporting him, but we would like to encourage him not to indulge in multiple sexual relationships,” said Mzembi.

Mzembi brought the house down when he joined the musicians on stage to showcase his dancing skills.

After the dances, musicians took turns to do lead vocals on different songs by the late Tongai.

An auction of the album was conducted and a promoter bought it for $5 000.

The six-track album has songs Konzi, Tutsotso, Mira Newako, Pasirino, Barika and Mwari Wenyasha.

Peter’s grandmother joined him on stage and the young musician took the opportunity to announce he was looking after the family his late father left.

“She (grandmother) is the one who can testify how I am taking care of the family,” said Peter.

He said he was humbled by the way people had supported him in coming up with the project.
