CHIREDZI — MDC-T sitting MP for Chiredzi West Moses Mare yesterday lost the bid to defend his parliamentary seat in the forthcoming polls after he lost to a strong challenge posed by Ward 5 councillor Dusty Zivhave in party primary elections held at Chiredzi Town house.

Zivhave polled 282 votes against Mare’s 240 in a tightly contested race pitting five candidates.
Yesterday’s primaries came about after Mare failed to make it during the confirmation process a fortnight ago where he garnered 172 “Yes” votes against 305 votes opposed to his candidature.
Soon after announcement of the results, Mare left the election venue in a huff, leaving some of his supporters stranded.
In local government elections, two sitting councillors Michael Nyashero (council chairman) and Panganayi Chiduwa retained their wards 7 and 4 tickets respectively while Florence Ngovera romped to victory after trouncing Juliet Nhedzi for the ward 3 ticket.
