The 22-year-old United States-based star, who is ranked on position 450 in the world, earned a place in the decisive match set for today after getting the better of Kelly Dayne from Australia 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets in the semi-finals yesterday.

On Thursday, Garanganga had managed to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament after securing a 6-4, 7-6 (1) straight sets win over Ilkel Cem from Turkey in the quarter-finals.

Garanganga, who is the tournament’s second seed, will now lock horns with South Africa’s Nikala Schoultz in the final today.

The fifth seeded Nikala needed three sets to beat the tournament’s third seed Tiago Fernandes 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a fiercely contested semifinal encounter yesterday.

Garanganga will head into today’s final searching for his third ITF Futures title in Turkey after he captured his maiden professional singles titles in the same country last year.

The former African junior champion won two tournaments, the Turkey Futures 35 and 36 tournaments both staged in Turkey last year, for his first career singles titles.

Garanganga’s feats in Turkey, which were followed by another win on home soil, catapulted him into the world’s top 400, on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
