POLICE detectives from the vehicle theft squad yesterday shot and injured two armed robbers in Harare. Report by Feluna Nleya

The robbers stole a Toyota Spacio vehicle last Friday.

The two robbers on Friday “hired” a Toyota Spacio to Snake Park before threatening the driver and stealing the vehicle.

Harare provincial spokesperson Inspector Tadius Chibanda said the victim reported the matter to the police before the team launched a manhunt.

“The two robbers hired the vehicle to Snake Park and on their way they ordered the driver to turn the vehicle and stop at White House along Bulawayo road. They then assaulted the driver and took the car,” said Chibanda.

He said after establishing that the vehicle was parked in Mufakose, the detectives layed an ambush and the robbers are alleged to have come around 5am to get the vehicle.

They were ordered to surrender, but resisted arrest resulting in both of them being shot.

“One of the robbers was shot in the shoulder while the other was shot in the leg, before they were arrested and taken to hospital where they are under police guard and in a stable condition,” Chibanda said.

“We are still carrying out investigations because we suspect that they could have been working in a group as such cases have been going on for a while, so we want to apprehend the others.”
