The crucial Sadc summit on Zimbabwe, which was scheduled for this Sunday, has been postponed by a day, sources reveal.

The crucial Sadc summit on Zimbabwe, which was scheduled for Maputo, Mozambique this Sunday, has been postponed to a date yet to be announced, sources reveal.

Report by Tapiwa Zivira, Online Reporter.

Details of the postponement were not immediately availed.

The key summit  of Southern African heads of states comes at a time when the main political parties in the unity government are at loggerheads over the timing of harmonized elections expected this year.

This follows  a Constitutional Court decision that elections must be held by July 31 as the country’ s current parliament’s tenure ends on June 29.

President Robert Mugabe’s  Zanu PF has insisted that elections must go ahead while his unity government partner and main rival Morgan Tsvangirai and other opposition parties insist crucial reforms must take place before a free and fair election can be possible.

The summit is key in unlocking  the elections dispute  as regional leaders are expected to discuss Zimbabwe’s roadmap to elections and compliance to the provisions of the Sadc facilitated coalition government.
