Black and her playing partner New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic fought hard before going down 6-2, 6-7, 4-6 in a tough match which lasted two hours and 37 minutes against second seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka from the Czech Republic.

The unseeded pair went into yesterday’s last eight match yet to lose a set in the grand slam tournament.

They seemed well on course for another win after winning the first set before Hlavackova and Hradecka rallied back to win the next two sets.

Black will, however, have another chance for glory at Roland Garros as she is still in contention in the mixed doubles where she is partnered by Pakistan tennis ace Aisam-ul-Haq.

Aisam and Black, ranked 9th and 46th respectively, defeated the pair of Nadia Petrova of Russia and Juan Sebastian Cabal of Colombia, ranked 3rd and 44th respectively, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarter-final on Monday.

Aisam and Black will now face fifth seeds Kristina Mladenovik of France and Daniel Nestor of Canada, ranked 19th and eighth.
