Zimbabwe won both of their Group B matches beating Kenya 3-0 in their first group match before going on to win the group when they eased past Ghana 3-0 in their second group match played on Thursday.

According to tournament regulations, the winner of pool A plays the winner of pool C and the winner of pool B will play the winner of pool D, with the two winning nations promoted to Europe/Africa Zone Group II for 2014.

On Thursday, Mark Fyn beat Ghana’s Albert Arthur 6-3, 6-3 while Zimbabwe’s top seed Takanyi Garanganga eased past Robert Mensah Kpodo 6-0, 6-2 as Zimbabwe surged ahead in the singles.

Fyn and Garanganga then paired up to beat Ghana’s duo of Kpodo and Emmanuel Mensah 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles match to secure a 3-0 win for Zimbabwe over Ghana as well as the top spot in group B.

Zimbabwe will now face either Egypt or Nigeria who were set to square off against each other yesterday for the top spot in group D as both teams were on two wins each in their group.

Yesterday, the Zimbabweans where inactive in the group as they had played all their group games while Ghana were up against Kenya as the group stages came to an end.

In the doubles match Zimbabwe’s duo of Fyn and Garanganga beat the Kenyan team of Yego and Kevin Cheyuirot Langat 6-4, 6-4 as Zimbabwe wrapped a 3-0 victory.
