A 22-YEAR-OLD Chitungwiza woman, Shelter Chimusaru, will rue the day she laid her hands on a 16-year-old teenager after she was slapped with a 12-year jail term for sexually molesting the boy.

REPORT BY CHARLES LAITON

She will, however, serve a nine-year effective term after regional magistrate Sandra Mupindu suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.

Chimusaru, who was resident at Kachepa Farm during the commission of the offence, sexually abused the teenager under the pretext that she was initiating him into adulthood.

However, her continuous demand for sexual intercourse with the boy led to the minor’s illness, resulting in him spilling the beans to his brother and mother.

Chimusaru, who is married with one child, started a craving for bedding the minor in August last year when the boy visited his mother at the farm on holiday.

Magistrate Mupindu heard that on the initial encounter, Chimusaru called the boy to her house ostensibly to fix her DVD player in her room. When the boy entered the said house, Chimusaru closed and locked the door after which she undressed and ordered the minor to have sexual intercourse with her.

The court heard, the boy refused, but Chimusaru threatened to kill him with a knife, forcibly grabbed him, removed his trousers and forced him to be intimate with her. After the initial encounter, Chimusaru is said to have continued sexually abusing the boy and threatening to kill him with a knife if he reported the matter. Each time she met the boy, Chimusaru is said to have referred to him as “her husband”, the court heard. Her luck ran out when the boy developed a swelling on his manhood and sought assistance from his elder brother who then questioned him, leading to Chimusaru’s arrest.

She was charged with indecent assault and when she appeared in court she denied the charge, but was convicted after a full trial.
