KWEKWE — A Silobela woman appeared in court on Tuesday charged with hacking off her husband’s ear with an axe after suspecting he was seeing another woman.

Report by Blessd Mhlanga

Cynthia Madhlunga (30) of Jena Mines Termite Compound pleaded guilty to contravening the Domestic Violence Act when she appeared before Provincial Magistrate Taurai Manwere.

The court heard that on April 22 this year, Madhlunga, who suspected her husband Mkhulunyelwa Sithole of having an extra-marital affair, chopped off his ear while he was asleep.

“Accused sneaked into the house, took an axe and struck her sleeping husband twice in the head. After striking her victim, accused got out of the house, locked the door from outside and fled the scene,” the court heard. Sithole later jumped out of the house through the window and sought assistance from his workmates at Jena Mine.

He was initially taken to Silobela District Hospital and later transferred to Gweru General Hospital where he had his ear surcharged. Madhlunga was remanded to May 13 for sentence.
