Season 8 of Big Brother Africa (The Chase) officially kicked off last night, bringing to an end weeks of speculation over who was to represent Zimbabwe in the 91 day reality television show.

Report by Cecilia Kamuputa

Socialite Pokello Nare was widely tipped to enter the house with either dancehall artiste Sandra Gazi popularly known as Lady Squanda or former UK Big Brother star Makosi Musambasi.

It then came as no surprise when Pokello was introduced as the first house mate.

The surprise only came when little known model and fitness trainer Hakeem Munyaradzi Mandaza was eventually introduced as the other Zimbabwean representative.

Pokello and Hakeem will now battle it out with 22 other housemates for the whooping US $300 000 prize money.

The two contestants have so far received overwhelming support from Zimbabweans on the social media platforms.

This is despite Pokello’s controversial profile after a leaked sex tape of her and boyfriend musician Desmond “Stunner” Chideme put her on the spotlight two years ago.

Hakeem, who is virtually unknown in Zimbabwe’s social circles, has also received instantaneous show of support.

Two Facebook pages dedicated to the two were immediately created last night.

Team Pokello Big Brother Africa Season 8 now has 8000 ‘likes’ and Vote Munya Hakeem Mandaza BBA8: The Chase has 5 000 ‘likes’.

Nare, a 27 year old mother of one who holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Media and Communications is also an entrepreneur, running Pokello’s Addicted 2 Shoes.

She is also the face of local fashion label Ndeip/Zviri Sei Sei by local designer Victor Mutendi.

Mandaza (22) who doubles as a model and fitness trainer said by entering BBA, he is looking for greater opportunities.
