Paguwa wins SRC golf tournament

THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sports and Recreation Commission raised $1 000 in the amateur golf competition played at Harry Allen Golf Club on Saturday.

THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) raised $1 000 in the amateur golf competition played at Harry Allen Golf Club on Saturday, which was aimed at raising funds for the Zimbabwe National Youth Games to be hosted in the city in August.

Tawu Paguwa was the winner of the individual stableford competition, getting 39 points while Matabeleland Golf Society president Mufaro Chivonivoni was second on 38 points with Emmanuel Kanjoma coming third on 36 points.

SRC co-ordinator for Bulawayo Province Sam Dzvimbu was happy with how the tournament progressed.

“We are happy that we have started raising funds for the Youth Games as we raised $1 000 today (Saturday). This is just the beginning because we are planning to have two more tournaments to raise funds for the games. We are also happy that we have managed to bring in corporates to assist in our cause because we are going to be hosting the nation in August,” he said.

Meanwhile, overall winner of the Mbada Golf Society competition last month Joseph Mushaka started off this year’s competition in style, winning the first game of the 2013/14 season at Harry Allen on Sunday.

Mushaka won the green jacket after accumulating 59,5 points and for coming on top of the Mbada Golf Society Final Order of Merit in the competition that ran over 17 games.

He got 71 on play-off handicap 15 after getting a gross of 86.

On second spot was Acey Zerf. The lady golfer got a gross of 84 in playoff handicap 11 getting a net score of 73 after she counted out Edington Mwamlowe and Misheck Manatsa.

Mwamlowe had a gross score of 87 in playoff handicap 14, while Manatsa had a gross score of 91 in playoff handicap 18.

Chivonivoni was the best gross winner after getting a gross of 78 on playing off handicap three netting 75.
