CASH-STRAPPED Marondera Municipality has resolved to dispose of some of its livestock to raise money for infrastructure development and improve service delivery.

REPORT BY JAIROS SAUNYAMA

Marondera mayor Farai Nyandoro confirmed the development saying the local authority had resolved to sell up to 260 head of cattle to raise money to rehabilitate some of its worn-out roads and refuse trucks. The council operates a cattle ranch at Elmswood Farm, a few kilometres west of the town.

“It is true that the council is disposing off 160 to 260 cattle and the proceeds are meant for infrastructure rehabilitation,” Nyandoro said.

“We are selling the cattle in batches. For a start, we are selling 60 beasts and we will see how far the money can take us in our work. Most of the roads in this town need resurfacing, so we resolved as council to sell some of our assets to revamp the infrastructure. Moreover, we need to repair some of the refuse trucks which are not functioning and we also need to deal with street lighting.”
